A two-hour gun battle flared across the Jordan River today near Umm Humetra, a river passage north of the Dead Sea. An Israeli patrol car struck a mine on an unpaved road there and one soldier was injured. When a second patrol car came along shortly after, Jordanian forces opened fire on it from the east bank of the river. The Israeli patrol returned the fire and the exchange petered out after two hours.
