Activities of the Ku Klan Klan have spread to Detroit. The secret order has directed its silent campaign against Catholic and Jewish merchants. Pictures of hooded and masked persons are found pasted over windows of business establishments, the owners of which are of races and religions, whose members are ineligible for the Klan.
Recently the campaign has been extended to include advocacy of a candidate for the governorship, whose platform would be based on opposition to parochial schools. Opposition to parochial schools, affecting the Catholics of the State, two years ago caused bitter feeling between the Catholics and non-Catholics, with the Jews joining the Catholics in defeating a proposed state amendment against the parochial institutions.
A few days ago, stickers advocating the candidacy of the author of the parochial school amendment for the governorship of Michigan were found pasted over Jewish and Catholic windows, shaping the letters K.K.K., and containing threats. The stickers read: “One school, one law, one flag,” and “Equality for all.”
