The American Committee of OSE today released a statement taking issue with charges voiced against it by Eliahu Dobkin, member of the Jewish Agency executive, at a press conference in Jerusalem at which he outlined the aims of the Central Licensing Committee established by the Agency to check multiple fund-raising drives for Israel abroad.
Mr. Dobkin referred to the OSE as one of “these organizations which have hitherto worked outside of Israel and now claim to be doing seventy percent of the work which is actually being done by the Jewish Agency”. In replying to Mr. Dobkin’s allegation, the OSE pointed out today that it has no knowledge of the organization ever claiming that it does “seventy percent of the work which is actually being done by the Jewish Agency”.
The statement also declares that “it is erroneous to assert that the OSE has hitherto worked outside of Israel”. It emphasizes that “the OSE has been working in Israel since 1943, and from that time on, it has established in Israel a network of health institutions”. It adds that “as recently as last July, at a conference in Israel between representatives of the OSE Union and the Jewish Agency, a high official of the latter praised the OSE for its discreet publicity on its work in Israel”.
