Orthodox Jewish groups were pleased that Congress voted down amendments that would have removed language allowing federally funded charities to use faith as a criterion in hiring. On Feb. 4, the U.S. House of Representatives voted down the amendments, moved by some Democrats, to the Community Service Block Grants legislation last month.
