A disturbance caused by Orthodox Jews during an assembly of pious communists in the so-called Living Synagogue is the latest development in Jewish religious life in Soviet Russia.
A group of Orthodox Jews in Poltawa, who strongly resent the creation of the Living Synagogue in that town, appeared in the hall where the Jewish communists were assembled preaching their new conception of Judaism, and caused a storm of protest. Both parties engaged in an exchange of epithets which finally led into a riot. Order was restored only after the lights were extinguished and the assembly dispersed.
