Outgoing Israeli Foreign Minister Ariel Sharon won a procedural vote Monday, when the Likud Party’s Central Committee agreed to elect a new leader in September and wait two years before selecting a candidate for prime minister. In what was viewed as a test of his support among Likud officials, Sharon won backing for his proposal over the opposition of two other contenders for the Likud leadership, Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert and outgoing Finance Minister Meir Sheetrit.
