In a discussion in the House of Gommons today, Ormsby Gore announced that its Palestine department of immigration had netted a surplus of £1,000 over its expenses.
Mr. Gore’s statement was in reply to a query by Mr. Lorimer as to whether the Zionists were bearing any of the expense of the immigration work.
A number of queries as to the Palestine situation were put to Gore in the House of Lords by Lord Apsley. In reply Gore said that the average number of immigrants moothly during 1925 was 654. During the month of February a total of 2500 were unemployed. This latter number however is not of Jewish unemployed exclusively, but of all classes.
Replying to the question as to whether the immigrants were religious, Gore said he hardly thought any Jew would come to Palestine unless he possesses some religious convictions, although the immigrants may not be orthodox.
