Problems of the Palestine citrus industry as well as the participation of the Palestine Government in the budgets of local Jewish Councils were discussed today at a conference of representatives of the Jewish Farmers Association and Edmund Boyd, Colonial Office representative who came here from London to study post-war economic problems.
There are now twenty youth settlements forming independent agricultural communities in various parts of Palestine, and some nineteen more youth groups are awaiting the allocation of land to set up their own settlements, it was reported here today. They may prove to be the most effective national instrument in saving and healing “a generation which has suffered the most bitter degredation and cruelty,” the report said.
Jewish National Fund headquarters here today dedicated a memorial to the late Isaak Ochberg of Capetown, South Africa, who bequeathed a large sum of money to the JNF in 1938. The memorial, in the form of a large pergola, which will serve as a rest center, has been erected on land purchased with Mr. Ochberg’s grant.
