The country-wide strike called to protest the deportation of the Latrun refugees was observed quietly today, as Jewish shops closed and transportation facilities suspended at noon.
The only incident reported was the injuring of a military dispatch rider who was thrown from his motorcycle by a wire drawn across Allenby Road, one of Tel Aviv’s main streets.
Ten soldiers were injured last night when a road patrol truck was blown up by a land mine. At the same time, a military truck was forced off the read by a wire hung across the highway north of Petach Tikvah and the driver was slightly injured. A short time later a road bridge near Tel Mond was damaged by an explosion, but there were no casualties. A box of explosives was found attached to a Shell pipeline near Haifa last night, but was exploded by police.
The Stern Group today issued a statement to the press admitting that it carried out most of the recent bombings and boasting that “the enemy troops are actually under curfew” because the mining of the roads has reduced military traffic and kept soldiers confined to barracks.
