Protests were received here today from parent groups throughout the state opposing the State Board of Regents’ recommendation this week-end that every school day begin with a non-denominational prayers. A spokesman for the State Education Department stressed that the Regents’ recommendation in no way could be considered a mandate upon the schools and left the final decision in the hands of local school boards.
