The Jewish Telegraphic Agency was asked today by French authoritative circles definitely to deny that anti-Jewish measures will be enacted against Jewish immigrants in France. The Jewish press was asked through the Jewish Telegraphic Agency not to accept any such alarming reports without verifying them.
The statement issued to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reads:
“A number of reports are in circulation in foreign countries, and some of these have found their way even into the Jewish press, which tend to represent certain legislative and administrative measures enacted in France as being directed against the Jewish immigrants here, or inspired by anti-Semitic ideology.
“There is no ground whatever for this suggestion. These rumors would appear to be not merely exaggerations, but definitely inspired by the desire to show that even the most liberal and tolerant European country recognizes the need of some kind of “protection” against the Jews.
“There is not a single measure taken by the French authorities that is directed against the Jews, whether immigrant, foreign or native. The measures taken with regard to foreign labor in France are inspired solely by consideration of the growing unemploy-
