The intensified campaign against French Jews, which was announced this week by the new Commissar for Jewish Affairs, Louis Darquier de Pellepoix, will be carried out by him under the direct supervision of Reinhard Hey-drich, assistant chief of the Gestapo, who has been sent from Prague to Paris in an attempt to quell the growing anti-Nazi activities in France, it was reported here today.
Other reports reaching here today confirm the creation of a special section of the French police which will deal only with Jews and which will be entrusted with carrying out all the various anti-Jewish regulations. They also will be responsible for selecting Jewish hostages when the Nazis decide to shoot more Frenchmen in reprisal for attacks on members of the occupation forces.
