Several Pennsylvania school boards have adopted resolutions calling for Bible reading and prayer in the public schools and urging other school boards to support an amendment to the United States Constitution that would permit such religious observances. An amendment to that effect, designed to void a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court outlawing official religious practices in the public schools, has been introduced by Senator Everett M. Dirksen, Illinois Republican.
The latest group to adopt the resolution is the East Deer-Frazer union school board in the Pittsburgh district. School boards in Berks County and Lancaster County have already endorsed the proposal.
