With $340,000 raised, the largest sum which the local Jewish community has ever contributed to ralestine, Philadelphia’s ten day campaign for the United Palestine Appeal was brought to a close on Wednesday evening. This sum represents an increase of $50,000 over the amount raised last year. Ove a thousand persons attended the banquet in the Y. M. H. A. which conclude the drive.
A number of subscriptions were received from non-Zionists, including Alfred W. Fleisher who gave $1600 to the Hebrew University and Hadassah in memory of Jules E. Mastbaum; Judge Horace Stern. $100 to the Hadassah; and Gimbel Brothers, $100.
The speakers on Wednesday evening were Morris Rothenburg of New York, national chairman of the Palestine Foundation Fund; Judge William M. Lewis. national chairman of the United Palestine Appeal; Sol C. Kraus, chairman of the local campaign; Mrs. Max L. Margolis. chairman of the Women’s Division; Benjamin L. Rubinsohn, chairman of the Palestine Foundation Fund for Region No. 4, presided.
