Reliable sources reported today that a purge of two high-ranking Polish Jewish military officers had created anxiety among Polish Jews that Poland might follow the Soviet anti-Jewish policy, according to Maariv, Israel’s largest daily newspaper.
The two Jewish generals were relieved of their posts at the orders of Moscow the report said. They were Gen. Komar, head of the Polish Security Services and Gen. Julius Hibner, the Deputy Interior Minister. Gen. Komar was reported to have been instrumental in helping Gomulka to become first secretary of the Polish Communist party and in helping to decrease the influence of Stalinist elements in the party.
