Police detained for several hours Friday Beate Klarsfeld, her husband, Serge, and 10 other members of the international League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism when they staged a sit-down in front of the Bundestag distributing pamphlets protesting the failure of West Germany and France to ratify an agreement on the extradition of Nazi criminals. Under the agreement, West German courts would have the right to try and condemn Nazi criminals sentenced in absentia by courts in France. Some of the demonstrators had been inmates of Auschwitz and wore prison clothing. Others wore French resistance medals. Police said the demonstrators had refused to comply with police requests to leave the Bundestag area.
