The Grand Cross of the Holy Sylvester was bestowed today upon Giuseppe Toeplitz, General Director of the Banca Commerciale Italiana by the Pope. M. Toeplitz, who is a Polish Jew who emigrated to Italy many years ago, was until recently the subject of anti-Semitic attacks published in some sections of the Italian press.
