The one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence of the United States is being celebrated in the synagogues, temples and congregations in the Republic of Poland by a decree of the Union of Rabbis in Poland.
The Union issued an appeal urging the rabbis as a tribute to the United States to arrange for the recital of the prayers “Mi Sh’beirach” and “Ha’nothen T’shva,” the ancient prayers recited by the Jewish communities for the welfare and health of kings and state executives.
A delegation of the Executive Committee of the Union, consisting of Deputy Rabbi Levine, Rabbi Solomon David Kahane, member of the Warsaw Rabbinate, the Chassidic rabbi of Radzyn, and Rabbi Leitner, called on United States Ambassador Stetson, congratulating him on the occasion of the Sesquicentennial celebration. The rabbis sent to the United States through the Ambassador the Biblical blessing given to Abraham: “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing (Genesis: 12:2).
The ambassador in reply declared that the American people have always admired the genius of the Jews, to which the world is indebted for much.
