That the Pope—of all people—is a Jew and therefore doubly wedded to those Jewish, capitalistic, as well as Roman Catholic, forces in league to throttle young socialist Germany, was announced in a recent issue of the North German People’s Weekly (Voelkische Wochenblatt Norddeutschlands of Wartburg). This imaginative little statement was voiced at precisely the moment when Chancellor Dollfuss of Austria and Mgr. Kaas, leader of the Catholic German Centrists, went to treat at Rome. The intention to discredit Austria, the rebellious German Catholics and the Pope is obvious. “Pope Pius XI,” says the German paper, “when he was a Cardinal was called Achille Ratti. He is the illegitimate (!) son of a Dutch Jewess called Littman. The infallible Holy Father is, therefore, only a vulgar Jew!”
There follows, of course, an exhortation to all loyal Germans to break the ties which bind them to Rome, the rotten Occident, and above all, Jewry.
