Pope Benedict XVI vowed to strengthen Catholic-Jewish relations. Benedict celebrated the 40th anniversary Thursday of the Second Vatican Council’s “Nostra Aetate” document, which absolved Jews of collective guilt in the death of Jesus. “This anniversary gives us abundant reason to express gratitude to almighty God,” Benedict told Jewish and Catholic leaders marking the event in Rome.
