Pope John Paul has set March 20,000, as a tentative date for the beginning of his visit to Israel and the West Bank. The Vatican is reportedly waiting for progress in the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks before making a formal announcement regarding the visit, which is part of the celebrations for the millennium there. Some 4 million tourists are expected in the area in 2000.
