Pope John Paul II should take off his cross when he visits the Western Wall in Jerusalem, representatives of Israel’s fervently Orthodox community said. But the representatives, including lawmaker Rabbi Avraham Ravitz, said they would not formally ask the pope to do so. They made their comments at a news conference called by the Orthodox Jewish group Am Echad.
