Pope Pius XII, receiving Jordan King Hussein in a private audience today, voiced the hope that a peaceful and equitable solution will soon be found for the Arab-Israel situation, and that such a solution will have favorable effects on the Holy Places and on Palestine.
Meanwhile, the Vatican’s official paper, Osservatore Romano, published today a frontpage editorial calling for internationalization of Jerusalem and the surrounding area. “The only solution guaranteeing preservation of Jerusalem and the Holy Places is the complete internationalization of the Holy City and its surroundings, ” the newspaper declared.
