Position Perilous in War and Under Fascist Rule, Rabbi Goldstein Asserts

In connection with the United States Congress against War and Fascism to be held in Chicago September 28, 29 and 30, Rabbi Benjamin B. Goldstein has issued an appeal stressing the perilous position of the Jew during wartime and under a Fascist government.

“The Jews,” he stated, “have been singled out as a group particularly vulnerable for attack. They are classic material for Fascist pogroms. Scattered throughout the world, traditionally living on sufferences, caricatured in a thousand ridiculous poses, the butt of constant jokes, they become easily a focal point for aroused resentment.

“They can be charged with anything, and everything that is said about them can be believed. Ignorance on the one hand, unscrupulousness, dishonesty on the other. These are the twin horns of the dilemma which transfixes the Jew today.”
