Israel’s Chief Rabbi Dr. Isaac Halevi Herzog was received today by South Africa’s Premier Daniel Malan. Rabbi Herzog blessed Mr. Malan in Hebrew. The Premier will also attend a reception at the Israel Legation in Pretoria in honor of Rabbi Herzog and his wife.
A recommendation to form a Rabbinical Council of South Africa was adopted today at a Conference of Orthodox groups. The decision is generally regarded as a great step forward toward strengthening orthodoxy in the widely scattered communities of the country.
