Britons recognize the courage which the Jews have shown throughout the centuries and the contributions which the. Jews have made to the fine arts and the world rejoices that the Jews now have their own homeland, Sir Basil Brooke, Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, said at a reception here tendered by the Belfast Jewish community to Sir Francis and Lady Evans prior to their departure for Israel where Sir Francis wall serve as British Minister.

In a tribute to the Minister-designate, the Prime Minister said that a man of great sympathy and understanding was being sent to Israel where one of the most interesting experiments in human history was being carried out. In response, Sir Francis said that I should have been chosen as Minister to the unique land of Israel fills me with a great sense of honor and responsibility.” He pledged that he and Lady Evans would do all in their power to promote friendship between the people and governments of Britain and Israel. The new Minister is the former British Consul-General in New York.
