President Anwar Sadat of Egypt Tuesday formally took back Mount Sinai from Israel and declared it open to all Moslems, Christians and Jews. He hoisted the Egyptian flag over the site to mark the second anniversary of his visit to Jerusalem which led to the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty. In a speech, Sadat appealed for an end to hatred and bloodshed among all peoples. He hailed the efforts of President Carter and Israel’s Premier Menachem Begin in bringing about the peace treaty. Begin, who was unable to attend, sent a message of good wishes to Sadat.
