President Clinton urged Barak not to give up on peace efforts, although in a telephone call he reportedly expressed understanding that no negotiations could take place while violence continued. Meanwhile, a group of Labor Party ministers, headed by Justice Minister Yossi Beilin, was scheduled to meet to discuss joint action against Barak’s intention to take a “timeout” in the peace process.
