Leaders of the American financial community, including Kaith Funston, president of the New York Stock Exchange, and Edwin D. Etheringtkn, president of the American Stock Exchange, today lauded President Johnson’s appointment of Manuel F. Cohen to the chairmanship of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr. Cohen, a government career official, is expected to assume next month the chairmanship of the Federal agency which supervises the securities field. The 51-year-old nominee, who was born in Brooklyn, is the son of a candy-store owner. He practiced law in New York prior to joining the SEC staff 22 years ago. He has been a member of the Commission itself since President Kennedy appointed him to the body in 1960.
