Judge Abraham L. Freedman of Philadelphia, a Justice of the United States District Court for Eastern Pennsylvania, has been nominated by President Johnson to the United States Court of Appeals for the third Circuit. The nomination is now before the United States Senate.
Judge Freedman has been serving on the District Court on appointment by the late President Kennedy. His promotion, which had been expected, was announced by Sen. Joseph S. Clark, who cited his long association with the Justice. Judge Freedman served as city solicitor when Sen. Clark was Mayor of Philadelphia.
Judge Freedman has an extensive record of Jewish as well as general community service. When the Federation of Jewish Charities was merged with the Allied Jewish Appeal in 1956, he was named president of the combined agencies and held the post for three years. He is still a member of the board and the executive committee of the Federation.
