President John F. Kennedy stated today that “time has not dimmed the heroism of the people of the Warsaw Ghetto, nor the cruelty that they were made to suffer,” emphasizing at the same time the indestructibility of the dignity and spirit of man.
The statement of the President was made in a telegram addressed to Dr. Sidney Marks, executive director of the Zionist Organization of America, extending greetings to the organization and its constituent branches on the occasion of their commemorating the 19th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. The message reads:
“Time has not dimmed the heroism of the people of the Warsaw Ghetto, nor the cruelty that they were made to suffer. This stark act of courage serves to remind us again and again that the dignity and spirit of man can survive the most crushing circumstances, and that faith in mankind outlives inhumanity.”
