Alleged distribution through Federal mails of a Congressional address purported to have been made by Representative Louis T. McFadden of Pennsylvania, was under investigation by Government agents here today to determine possible violation of the Congressman’s franking privileges. The address, disseminated in this city in mail for which no postage was paid, contained an attack on “international Jewish bankers.”
Alexander Brin, publisher of a Jewish newspaper here, was responsible for the initiation of the probe when he asked United States Attorney Francis J. Ford to look into the matter.
At the same time Brin once again brought into the anti-Semitic limelight the name of George W. Christians, of Chattanooga, Tenn., self-styled president and active head of the Crusaders White Shirts and Crusaders for Economic Liberty. The publisher turned over to For other allegedly anti-Semitic literature which was sent in mail for which postage was paid and which came from “C. F. Fulliam, Director of Propaganda Intelligence Service, Crusaders of Economic Liberty, 320 East Ninth street, Muscatine, Iowa.” Fulliam, in Muscatine, was said to have admitted that Christian was his chief.
The alleged congressional address by Representative McFadden, said Brin, was received here with a Muscatine, Iowa, postal cancellation, and was stamped with Representative McFadden’s frank.
Fulliam is said to have denied sending any envelopes through the mails bearing the Congressman’s postal frank.
