The election of a seven-man praesidium or political commission to represent the American Jewish community and to act as its spokesman in the submission of proposals to the United States Government and intergevernmental bodies was proposed here yesterday by Louis Lipsky, chairman of the executive committee of the American Jewish Conference, at a meeting of community leaders sponsored by the Philadelphia Council of the Conference.
The proposal was submitted by Mr. Lipsky as his own amendment to the proposed plan for a permanent organization to succeed the Conference. The praesidium would be elected by the delegates to the proposed organization at its biennial conventions. It would act as the official representative of the organization the execution of its political work.
The meeting here was one of a series of regional conferences called to elicit community reaction to the plan. Similar meetings have been held in Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Mr. Lipsky stated that as a result of the suggestions made at meetings already hold, the committee on future organization would make some changes in the plan at a final session to be held on the eve of the meeting if the Conference delegates in Chicago November 28.
