Protests against the barring of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent, Milton Friedman, from a press briefing on the Arab refugee question by Robert C. Strong, head of the Near East section of the State Department, continued today in the Jewish press.
The Jewish Floridian, of Miami, called the act “a high-handed action of a small-minded bureaucrat without sufficient diplomatic finesse to cover the tracks of his own bigoted thinking. ” The arbitrary decision of the State Department official is “a dangerous one, whose implications go far beyond” the exclusion of the JTA correspondent from the press briefing.
The Jewish Day-Morning Journal, in an editorial today, said the newspaper “joins in the protests and expresses astonishment that a responsible official in the State Department practiced discrimination against a Jewish correspondent, and through him against the entire Jewish press.”
