The question of forming a world organization of orthodox rabbis, with headquarters in Jerusalem, was brought to the attention of the orthodox rabbis of America by Rabbi A.J. Kook, Chief Rabbi of Palestine, at the twenty-second annual convention of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis in America. Over 200 delegates from all parts of the country are participating in the conference which is taking place at the Broadway Central Hotel.
In outlining the principles of the new world organization of rabbis, Rabbi Kook stated that this new organization should be the preparation for the future Jewish San Hedrin in Jerusalem.
“Of course,” Rabbi Kook stated, “we understand there is no possibility, or authority, to revive, at present, the old sacred Jewish institution of learning and judgment, but the time is ripe to lay the foundation for it.”
Rabbi Kook, who addressed the conference in Hebrew, paid tribute to America, saying that of all the Diaspora countries, America is the best Goluth country, where the Jews enjoy civil and religious liberty and equality.
