Rabbi Goldstein Pleads with Home Mission Council to Cease Work Among Jews

A plea for cessation of missionary activities among Jews was presented to the annual meeting of the Home Missions Council a Protestant body comprising representatives of thirty denominational groups, in session here. Dr. Israel Goldstein, Rabbi of Congregation B’nai Jesh(###), New York, who was invited to present to the meeting a statement regarding the attitude of Jews toward Christian missionary work among Jews, pleaded for the cessation of p(###)zing activities.“As a member of the National Conference of Jews and Christians, which is interested in (###)ting relations of (###) good-will and understanding, I can assure you that no single act on the part of our Christian brothers would so surely (###) (###) good-will and understanding between them and the Jews of this country, as their decision to stop the proselytizing of the Jews,” Dr. Goldstein declared.“Mary Jewish leaders,” he continued, “feel aggrieved to see Christian missionary efforts being directed towards Jews. program aims at the neighborhood as a whole, without special reference Jews as such, but I do refer to (###) instances where the appeal is (###) directed to the Jew as sun. There are missionary institutions which are established in neighborhoods they are predominantly Jewish, where th(###) can be no mistake as to who is intended to be reached. There are missionary pamphlets published in (###)dish and Hebrew. There are institution bearing the name of Hebrew-Christian missions, whose program is specifically that of seeking the conversion of Jews to Christianity.“Such activity is being conduce(###) under the auspices of some groups which are included in the Home Missions Council.

“The Jewish feeling is especially offended by those Christian missionary activities which bring Jewish children under their inference.
