Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein of the Institutional Synagogue, discussed the Soviet Russian situation in his sermon on Saturday morning, entitled, “The Illiberality of the Liberals.” Not only did Rabbi Goldstein condemn Soviet intolerance under the guise of liberalism, but he said in part: “I should like to say to our so-called liberal preachers (like Schulman and Fosdick) that they have pussy-footed the issue, and have made their protest as a sorry appendix, to the whitewashing of the actual facts of the illiberality of Soviet Russia’s liberalism.”
