Rabbi Jay Kaufman of New York was elected last night vice president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations in an historic action by its national executive board making him the first to hold this office in the UAHC’s 84-year history as the patron institution of American Reform Judaism. Rabbi Kaufman will serve as second to Dr. Maurice R. Eisendrath, president of the UAHC.
