By a narrow margin of 298-254, the Labor Party’s 600-member Central Committee tonight selected Labor Minister Yitzhak Rabin as its new leader and Israel’s next Prime Minister should he succeed in forming a new government. The 52-year-old former Ambassador to the United States and former Chief of Staff, was selected over Information Minister Shimon Peres, the only other candidate. (See full story Page 3).
