Ragnar Josephson is Elected Member of Swedish Academy

Professor Ragnar Josephson has been elected to the Swedish Academy, an 18-member body which decides on the awarding of the annual Nobel Prize for literature. He is the first Jew to be elected to the Academy, which includes leading representatives of Swedish culture.

Dr. Josephson is a professor of art history and has written several plays and poems on Jewish themes. Together with the late Professor Marcus Ehrenpeis, he translated a number of Hebrew poems into Swedish.
