Dr. Goetz Freimerz von Poelnitz has submitted his resignation as rector of the new Regensburg University after disclosure of documents implicating him as a former supporter of the Nazi regime, it was revealed today.

The rector sent his resignation to the Bavarian Cultural Ministry a week after Rector Ludwig Kotter of Munich University sent to the Bavarian authorities allegedly incriminating documents. The documents purportedly showed that von Poelnitz supported the Nazi regime before and during World War II. He denied that the charges had anything to do with his resignation.
