The American Red Cross today received contributions totalling $63,000 designated for the relief of Polish war victims, Chairman Norman H. Davis announced. The donations, forwarded by three organizations, made a total of $467,061 contributed specifically for Red Cross relief for distressed Poles who took refuge in neighboring nations or remain in German-occupied Poland.
Upon receipt of the checks, Davis stated that the money would be used for the immediate purchase of additional relief supplies.
Included were a check for $50,000 from the Polish American Council, $10,000 from the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and $3,000 from the Polski Narodowy Komitet W Ameryce of Scranton, Pa. Davis explained that more than 50 Polish organizations throughout the country had sent contributions to the Red Cross for war relief operations. Supplies are being purchased by the Red Cross for distribution in the Government-General district of German-occupied Poland.
