Canada will admit 51 refugee rabbis and their families who are now residing in Shanghai, it was announced today by the Canadian Jewish Congress, which was instrumental in securing permission for the group to enter.

The refugees, totalling 67, will be allowed to enter under a non-immigrant status for a one-year period, as students, after which their cases will be reviewed. Congress has guaranteed that they will not become public charges, Saul Hayes, executive director of the organization, said.
