A 12-point decree was issued by Reich Protector Konstantin von Neurath in Prague last night providing for registration of Jewish property in Bohemia-Moravia, defining a Jew according to the German Nuremberg Laws and vesting in himself final authority on the Jewish question in the protectorate.
In issuing the decree, Baron von Neurath took the matter out of the hands of the Czech Government. A National Unity Party committee had formulated a comprehensive law for gradual reduction of Jewish influence of the Jews’ share in economic life until it reached the ratio of the Jews in the population, but this measure was discarded.
Registration of Jews’ property, both business and personal, must be made with German commissars before July 31, pending which transfer of Jewish property without special permission of the German authorities is prohibited. Valuables must be registered with the Czech National Bank.
Moving further toward “Aryanization” of trade and industry, the decree authorized the Protector to appoint trustees for business firms and ordered all Jews to obtain written consent by July 31 to carry on business. New acquisitions of real estate, stocks and bonds or entry into new business enterprises by Jews is forbidden.
