A strong movement was afoot here today to invite Max Reinhardt, famous German Jewish theatrical producer now in exile from Germany, to become the director of the Greek National Theatre.

The movement was started by M. Carapanayotis, well-known Athens advocate, who broached the idea in a letter published in the Elevtheros Anthropos (Free Man), Athens newspaper.

“A great vacuum has been created by the death of Dr. F. Politis, director of the National Theatre,” the Athens advocate wrote. “I think the Hitlerist storm can help us admirably to fill it. The great and unique Reinhardt is exiled. If he is asked, and if he agrees to come to Greece, our National Theatre will reach new heights under the guidance of such a man.”
