Remains of Former Chief Rabbi Zvi Chajes of Vienna Arrive in Israel for Reburial

A coffin containing the remains of the late Prof. Zvi Perez Chajes, Chief Rabbi of Vienna and Austrain Zionist leader who died in 1927, has arrived here aboard the S.S. Keduah. Funeral services will be held in Tel Aviv prior to reburial.

A Biblical scholar and expert on medieval Jewish history, Rabbi Chajes was chairman of the Zionist executive committee in Austria from 1921-25. He was also a trustee of the Hebrew University, a member of the World Relief Conference and head of the Jewish Teachers College in Vienna. A memorial volume in his honor was issued in 1928.
