Foreign Office sources said today that July 9 has been proposed by the U.S. State Department as the date for a meeting here between the foreign ministers of Israel and Egypt, Moshe Dayan and Mohammed Kaamel and Secretary of State Cyrus Vance in an effort to revive the stalled Israeli-Egyptian peace talks. The sources said that London was suggested as the venue for the meeting because of its geographical position midway between the U.S. and the Middle East, because it is a neutral capital and because such talks in Washington might be hampered by American domestic political considerations.
The U.S. proposal was made to the Foreign Office and now awaits the reactions from Israel and Egypt. Britain would not take part in the talks although British officials are likely to have bilateral discussions with the two Middle East diplomats, the sources said.
