David Schweitzer, special European representative of the Hias-ICA Emigration Association, arrived here this week to organize emigration of Jewish refugees who found shelter in Sweden during the war. He will open a Hias office here to assist the refugees in preparing for emigration and to locate friends and relatives on behalf of American inquirers.
Charles S. Zimmerman, vice-chairman of the Jewish Labor Committee, who is now on a relief mission here, was received by Foreign Minister Olsten Unden and by Gustav Moeller, Minister for Social Welfare, with whom he conferred on various problems facing Jewish refugees in Sweden. Both ministers assured him that no pressure would be exerted on Polish-Jewish refugees to return to Poland and that they will be permitted to engage in employment, and even continue their professional studies, when necessary.
He was also promised that Hungarian, Rumanian and Ruthenian Jews whose repatriation has already been decided upon, will be allowed, for the present, to remain in Sweden.
