Foreign Minister Mahmoud Riad of Egypt appeared on nation-wide Egyptian television yesterday and appealed to Mr. Nixon to rid the United States Administration of “great Zionist influence” which, he said, has characterized recent Administrations.
“We hope the Nixon Administration will oppose this influence and make efforts toward peace by applying pressure on Israel to withdraw” from territories occupied during the Six-Day War, Mr. Riad said. He also remarked that if the U.S. sold Israel the Phantom jets it is seeking, such action would hurt the peace efforts of United Nations intermediary Dr. Gunnar V. Jarring.
