Riga Hears of Anti-Jewish Excesses in Simferopol

Serious anti-Jewish excesses occurred last Sunday in Simferopol, Crimea, according to a radio message from Moscow received by the Latvian press here.

Jewish passersby were beaten on the streets. The Soviet police were compelled to employ firearms against the pogromists. Thirty-four hooligans were arrested.

With the Eddie Cantor Trophy as their objective, twelve Y. M. H.A.’s, Y.W. H. A.’s and Jewish Community Centers will participate in the three preliminaries next Sunday evening of the Fourth Annual Dramatic Tournament of the Metropolitan League of Jewish Community Associations, New York. The finals will be held on May 12th, when Mr. Cantor is expected to present the trophy to the winner.
